What’s the best way to become stupid? Say you’re stupid. What’s the best way to stay fat? Saying I can’t lose weight or I’m too fat and ugly. What’s the best way to become lazy, believe you’re lazy. If you want to be lazy, you’ll say it until you believe it.

Although this concept is one I fight with constantly with my ADHD, I know I am not a lazy human being. I also eventually have to realize the things said in my past roll though my head. I am thankful to a brother who was most willing to tell me that what our parents said about who we are still rang through our heads. I told him when those thought of being worthless come through my head, it isn’t in first person that it comes through, it is often in third person. Sure, the thought is in my voice but it isn’t my words. It was words I heard all the time.

Don’t let yourself get eaten up by words that are not true! It’s up to you whether or not you believe these words. It is up to you whether you become a waste of space or you say…”Oh, that silly thought again.” and replace it with a new one of perhaps, look at what I accomplished today. Remember when you feel like giving in, to let it rain. Rain wipes everything away. Rain makes things green and beautiful again. Don’t understand? Watch.

 

Once you begin to remember where those words come from, accept that they’re not true, identify who you are and nourish yourself to continue onward in your journey of life then and only then will you become a happier person. I have always told people they should never give up on themselves.

Although I have constantly fought this battle of punishing myself and allowing negative talk to take over, I have found out what works. Since discovering the root of the negative thoughts, I have began to ask for clarity. I ask if my wrong thoughts are true. I point out what makes them worse. I can’t say I have found the cure to being negative because we all get down on ourselves at times. Overcoming it takes a lifetime. However, what I can say is this, don’t stop trying.

The minute you stop, you allow a drought in your life. The drought takes over and eats you up. Fear sets in and you will be a sad little person. I have seen it in people’s lives. One of my friends who is most brillant is afraid to even walk forward in life and is stuck in neutral. He hasn’t chosen anything. He is stuck in a job he didn’t really want to stay in. He has been there for three years now. They have offered to help train him but he is so busy sitting on the fence, he stays exactly the same. The negative voices tell him, “Don’t want to fail, so I won’t try.”

Being positive is not easy. However it is worth it. Happiness is worth a hundred times of falling down. ADHD people use the excuses of “I can’t” for organization, procrastination and other such things. Then they hit themselves emotionally telling themselves untrue negative self talk. STOP! Stop the chain.
