No offense to the Sci-fi great author, but I suspect part of his greatness that even got him on a few calendars came from having his birthday on January 2nd and giving the world a reason to continue partying I, Robot style.

Still for many ADHDers the post holiday season can be depressing. Gone are the shiny decorations, the parties, the singing, and of course the gifts. As I mentioned in my post on the environment sets the Christmas spirit by having the Christmas tree up it reminded Stephanie to take care of her Christmas lists as well as served as a reward for the mundane task of cleaning up our living room to make room for the sparkling tree. So when these external and shiny motivators are gone what can the ADHDer turn to in order to keep on task with the minutia of a new year and perhaps this time sticking it out with their New Year’s resolutions?

In yesterday’s post, I brought up 3 strategies for keeping your new year’s resolutions.  One of the keys was to simply get someone to work with you or to simply share your goal with them while you go out there and do it and they hold you accountable. My wife did this yesterday by inviting over a friend to hang out with her while she cleaned. This friend didn’t have to do anything with my wife, just be there to chit chat and remind my wife she still needed to finish her chores. Sometimes, even talking on the phone while going about the chores you really don’t want to do will get your mind off them enough so you can just do them. Plus there’s someone out there to congratulate you on the glory of cleaning the kitchen and finally getting your laundry done.

What are some ways that you use to keep moving forward with your goals?
